check the windows log files, also if vmware is running during the crashes then you have your number one suspect

you might want to visit the vmware forums and post there, make sure you list the hardware in use and current SATA/SAS controller/driver used

listing the demensions of the power supply space in the case would go a long way to getting you a possible answer

Is possible if the the fan shroud is not seated correctly it can cause the same problem?

to answer your questions

Will the PERC H200  work with the HP expander: yes it will (so will the h310) both dell cards can also be flashed to "IT" mode becomming just a HBA card (no raid functions)

Can a breakout cable be used as a "reverse" breakout cable to connect the expander card to the ROMB?

No, you nust use the correct breakout cable a reverse breakout cable is wired diffrently read the link belw

https://www.servethehome.com/external-sas-sata-disk-chassis-wiring-part-2/

Will the motherboard work with a HP SA-P410 or SA-P410i Controller

qualified maybe/yes   .... the p410/410i is a server card and was designed to work with specific hp servers, it is not a card made to fit/work every computer with a pci-e slot

also the p410/410i is available in several diffrent sub models, and updating the firmware on all of them is almost impossible unless you have it installed in the matching HP server i strongly recomend you avoid this series card for home use

you can also use the LSI 9211-8i/4i  series cards they ship with "IR" firmware (Raid) or "IT firmware (HBA mode)

HBA mode is what you usually want it has no raid functions and simply apps more sas/sats ports to the motherboard

LSI makes software allowing you to switch firmware to whatever mode works best for your needs. i strongly recomend this card

no, the fan shroud will not prevent a boot, it will however cause bios error msg's about the fan(s) not responding

you have a no boot issue, you might want to remove the cmos battery unplug the power supply for 30min then reinstall

a corupt bios firmware can also cause this, IE- boots black screen blue power light on and fans ramp up to max speed

if you have these symptioms you can try a try bios recovery

Press the power button for split second it lights up and shuts down and nothing. Is that still be cmos? Or maybe the processors need to be reseated? I had the computer shipped and I reseated everything except the processors. Thanks for quick response!

z420, 2660v1 300GB ssd 1 TB storage drive 4x8 32GB 1333, MSI GTX 670 2GB, Liquid Cooled.

For the most part I run Cinema4d R19.

My question is, am I better off upgradeing my ram , or My proccesor

I thought the BB,Date was 2011 although CPUz say's  06/01/2016,.

I have upgraded from 16gb 2x8-1066  to 4x8 32GB 1333, but I undestand I may be better off  to have 8 sticks reather than 4 is that correct?

I also ugraded from a quadro 2000 to the GTX 670.

Cinema 4dR19 runs much better but not great.

Which is the best plan?

Upgrade to 64 GB 1333?

upgrade to 64GB 1600

Upgrade the processor to a E5-v2 and later I can upgrade to 1866.

All thouights are welcome.

Im 60 years old not much disposible cash.

Thank you.

let's back up a bit,

was the system previously working ? if so when

was it shipped or moved to a new location and now fails to turn on?

did you add new hardware and now it's having power issues?

the power on then right off is usually because of a short somewhere and the power supply is detecting this short and powering off to prevent further damage

as previously mentioned, i would remove all cards, disconnect all drives and remove all ram

then install only the minimum ram needed to boot (this depends on the number of installed cpu's)

make sure the ram is in the correct slots you will be using either 3 or 6 modules

ram locations can be determined using the diagram found on z820's the side cover

then using the z820 service manual verify all the connections to the motherboard are correct

you need to check the main power connector the aux cpu power and the aux ram power connector i have seen people use the wrong connector for the video card and swap the aux cpu power with the aux ram connector look at section " System board designators " z820 section

the z840 uses quad (4 chanel) memory controller, so yes using 4 /8/12  sticks of memory and so on for memory upgrades is perfered,   the size of the memory stick is not a consideration in this case only the number of sticks is as doing it this way gives you the fastes memory bandwidth

i personally would recomend upgrading the existing video card first something like the nvidia  GTX1050/1060

will give you a nice increase  all around  over your existing card

ram or CPU depends on exactly how you use theCinema 4d application, you might want to read this link:

then i would get a 512GB SSD  to replace the 300GB drive (and use the 1TB drive as a archive drive)

Thank You for your support regarding DP i was asking about the version of HDMI wchich is instaled as an additionL port in the 800 g3, in all specs documents it is mentioned as HDMI only it does not say if its 1.4 or 2.0

using converter is not something i would like to do

Re: Version of DP and additional HDMI

first of all you might want to reread your original post that plainly states you want the display port revision along with HDMI revision, second you asked about 4k support, and this is supplied by the HP adapter so i would think the information i provided answered your requests

The intel chipset HDMi port is optional and not a standard port available on all models and is 1.4

unless you have installed a upgraded video card that has a hdmi 2.0 port

I´ve chanced some parts like gpu, ram and ssd but i still have the same system board. On my new case there is a cable split into 5 ends; h.d.d. led, power SW, Reset SW, power led+ and power led- and I can´t find where on the systemboard i should plug them in. Can somone please tell me where? Thanks.

your HP motherboard was designed to use it's custom hp case, as such it does not follow the industry standards for front panel I/O connections

you will need to make your own semi custom connections by looking in the user service manual for the z400 which covers the pinouts on the hp motherboard

http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c02589908-1.pdf

start with page 221, which shows the USB header pinouts

the next page lists the motherboard connectors such as fan/HD  light

you should also find the 2 pins used to power on/off the motherboard, if not simply look at the power button, note the colors of the pwr button wires and then look at the other end and note where those same  wires connected

This Javato artist Smiley Happy) Do you remember how many problems for the  Z820 to Z620 watercooler compatibility arised?

This is a bit cutting-edge technology, but it looks corsair watercooler does it job.  And some StarWars looking back of the Z620

you will need to install the intel RST enterprise drivers during the setup using the F6 method of add new driver(s) to the windows setup program so it knows about the z440's hardware

the z440 uses the x99 chipset which came out after windows 7 was released as such there are no builtin drivers for this chipset, which is why you must add them during the windows install when prompted to add drivers via F6

all nessary drivers can be found on the hp web site for your model under the "drivers storage"  link, (click the " + ")

you need sp85585

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise

system software Manager Icon
4.6.0.1048 Rev.A26.3 MB

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-z440-workstation/6978828/drivers

use 7-zip/winrar to unzip the sp85585 package and use the  win 7 x64 folder files for F6

another link for the same driver package:

http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=352&func=fileinfo&id=2775&lang=en

dbl click on the file and it will self extract to a folder named:

intel_rste_4.6.0.1085(www.station-drivers.com)

go into the win folder and then into the RSTe_f6_iaStorA_win7_64  folder,

copy those files onto a usb key  then insert the key into the z440 USB 2 port (you can not use a usb 3 port)

power on the z440 and when prompted to press/use F6 key point it to the usb key that has the files, then follow the prompts

rember you must copy all the files inside the RSTe_f6_iaStorA_win7_64 folder to a usb stick do not copy the folder

you have a defective cpu which has a failing/failed QPI link or bent cpu socket pins (or in this model a bad  cpu riser card)

the qpi links are used in dual/quad cpu setups to allow data to flow between the cpu's

the E5 series cpu's have dual qpi links

this is why swapping the cpu's may change the  qpi error location

i had a issue with a pre production E5 that had a slower QPI link that the production models as such i had to place the pre production E5 in cpu o socket for the system to work with both cpu's

if i placed the production E5 in with the faster QPI link in cpu 0 socket the second pre production E5 would spit out a QPI error
