Sorry, I don’t change it I put one processor running boots then I installed second processor then won’t boots.

Thanks for the detailed info SDH, my PSU label isn't exactly easy to access. I knew they could handle more than standard aux. PCI leads but not the specific amperage/power limits.

I did run my Z620 with a Quadro K4200 (108W) and M2090 (225W) previously and I only used one aux. PCI cable per card so effectively pulling 150W from a single aux. cable.

Still, it's a little strange that HP recommends the total power of all graphics cards cannot exceed 300W. Talk about having a 'safety margin', (not a criticism of HP, maybe a bit over cautious?).

Hi,

When running two processors you need to have memory populated to both sides. This will in fact cause a boot issue.

User manual can be reviewed here.

I love your metaphor about the garden hoses and the fire hose. Well done: have been thinking about that since I first read your notes.

I do wonder on the other hand if there is indeed any magic sauce at all in their splitters or connectors. Right now I use Chinese-sourced 6-pin to 8-pin converters. I wonder if a standard 6 pin to dual 6 pin would work or would burn the workstation.

I think the magic sauce is in the PSU hand putting 18A in there. Afterwards it's just cabling. But maybe not Smiley Happy The only thing I could see is using a slightly thicker cable.

Fascinating workstation...

Happy to help.  This issue has been ongoing for years now, and I sure wish HP would put out a white paper on it, plus provide a HP quality easily found (1) 6-pin to two 6-pin and (2) 6 pin to 8 pin adapter.  I've never found the HP 6-pin to two 6-pin adapter part/option numbers, but here is the most recent version from HP (option number N1G35AA), and a source that has 3 available in stock for about 25.00 (!),  HERE.  The actual SP and AS HP part numbers have been posted in this forum in the past to help searching.

Regarding pictures in posts.... they'll only become visible when a moderator releases them.... check back in a bit.

Two added links, and this is still going on in the Z840s as you'll see.  I am sure those 6-pin cables are super-powered too.

HERE  and  HERE

Added in:  Below is a pic of the label from the Z840's 1125W power supply.... it appears to have 4 total PCIe supplemental power cables (G1-G4), all 18A too:

And, just for fun, below are the two power supplies for the Z820, one of which is the lower powered 850W version, and the other is the higher powered 1125W version.  You may know that the first has two PCIe supplemental 6-wire power cords, and the second has three.

You can see those in the two images below as G1/G2 and G1/G2/G3, all of which are 18A:

Hi,

Typically you need BIOS support to overclock "K" models.  If you previously had XTU on your PC prior to installing the i7-6850k then I suggest that you delete out all XTU files and reinstall XTU.

Did you OC the E5-1607 V3 or attempt to OC the E5-1607 V3?

HP Easy Shell - allow user Keyboard and Graphic settings changes

Hi,

We use HPDM to capture and deploy images to HP t620 Mobile Thin Clients with Windows 10IOT embedded and HP easy shell configured. The enhanced write filter is configured so no user changes can be saved.

To allow the users to change their Keyboard and Graphic settings we deployed the following UWF Registry Exclusion List

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Comntrol\GraphicsDrivers

HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard

Since we have upgraded the HPDM 4.7 sp8 (Server and TC Agent) we get the follwoing error when applying this:

2018-01-31 15:48:59 [Error Details]: Ausführen von ApplyWFExclusionList-Task fehlgeschlagen.
Fehlercode: 1072128, Fehlerinfo: ..\..\Task\common\WFExclusionListTask.cpp@585: Failed to operate UWF regsitry exclusion list.
..\..\Task\common\WFExclusionListTask.cpp@323: Failed to add exclusion:HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop
..\..\XWF\uwfmanager.cpp@497: U

How can we make this setting compatible?

Thanks

Updating HP Write Manager on t630 fails

When trying to update the HP Write Manager Software using a Windows 10 IoT Enterprise installation image for the HP t630 from version 1.0.17.0 (preinstalled) to latest available version 01.05.007 msi setup fails with error 1603.

part of the msi log containing the error:

I did disable the write filter before starting installation. I cannot uninstall the old HP Write Manager version because the thin client will not boot any more afterwards.

Does anyone have the same issue? I'm trying to update the version because the changelog lists interesting new features.

Z240 Solid State SATA RAID-1 Bootable C: Drive

I have not yet purchased the Z240 SSF computer (pending). I would like to know if it is possible to install two (2) identical 256GB SSD SATA (not Z Turbo)  Solid State Hard Drives and configure them as a single RAID-1 Bootable C:  Drive using the BIOS setup. We are considering this configuration ( 2 x SSD SATA ) because we were told that two (2) Z-TURBO SSD cannot be configured as a RAID-1 Bootable C: Drive.  I have searched but cannot find anything that specifically states that Solid State SATA  Drives can or cannot be configred as Bootable RAID-1 C: Drive using BIOS. If there is document, then please provide a URL. I have downlodded the Z240 Maintenance Manual and it does not mention Solid State SATA anywhere.  Do Solid State SATA Drives need a Windows Driver like the Z-Turbo SSD does? If true then that is a problem.

Can you think of a better 14 GB, 16 GB, 18 GB, 20 GB combo?

Thanks!

HP Thin Client T520 ThinPro Blocks while using RDP

Dear Community,

Just installed new Thin Clients T520 with Linux HP Thinpro. I am no IT guy, I just ordered these online.

On our Windows Based Server 2012 R2 we see blocks while using different programs.

The blocks very per day, but most of the time htey appear within outlook etc.

Everything is up to date, they are frankly new. The RDP works to the server.

How to get these awfull blocks away? Sometimes you can't even see a normal e-mail.

I can't make any screenshots of it, they appear over it not on it. So I attached photos with phone.

Hope some IT guys can help me,

DylanJohn

Re: HP Z620: installing a third graphics card

this might help  to read a power supply's real wattage since some supplys are single rail and some like the z workstations are multi rail

also the the tempture the ratings are speced for vary by power supply mfgr with some being specced at a very low (cool) tempture instead of the real (hot) temps actually found inside a systems case

Maximum Power

Power supplies are basically differentiated by output wattage, which is quoted according to the "Maximum Power" output. Maximum power is not just a number, it also gives a basic idea of how many devices (and what type of devices, in terms of power consumption) the power supply will be able to feed.

However, the maximum power figure alone is not enough to determine whether a PSU is able to drive your computer. Each voltage rail requires attention, but the most attention needs to go to the +12V rail(s), since the processor and PCIe video cards receive their power from them. The power supply must output at least 18A (amps) on the +12V rail(s) for a mainstream up-to-date computer; more than 24A for a system with a single enthusiast-class graphics card; and no less than 34A when it comes to a high end SLI/CrossFire system. The output amperage figure we're talking about here is the combined figure for PSUs offering more than one +12V rail. Of course, it is the combined total output number you should look for, and you can't always add up the+12V rails to calculate the combined output. For instance, a PSU labeled with rails labeled +12V1@18A and +12V2@16A may only have a 30A combined power output instead of 34A. Look for this information in the detailed item specifications or on the PSU information label.

If you are going to run an SLI/Crossfire configuration, please make sure the +12V rail(s) provide no less than 34A combined. Different power supplies are labeled differently – some show the maximum amperage provided by each rail, and some will provide the maximum combined maximum wattage, e.g. 396W, which is equals to 396W/12V = 33A.

Continuous and Peak Power

Please note that continuous power and peak power are different. Generally, the "Maximum Power" figure of a power supply refers to the continuous (stable) power the PSU will deliver consistently, while the peak power refers to the elevated maximum (surge) power the PSU can deliver, albeit for very short amount of time (e.g. 15 seconds).

You can connect pin 1 to pin 5 by wire.  For my HP Z800 and Xeon W5580 work but if you sterss your CPU temperatures is higher than 70*C.

HP Z800 Upgrade wit Titan Xp or Quadro M5000? Power Upgrade? Cooling Upgrade?

$

Hi,

I do run a HP Z800, spec here:

2x Xeon X5650@2.67GHz
RAM 72GB
Current Graphic Card Nvidia Quadro 5000
850 Watt Power supply.
Windows 10Pro 64Bit latest release

I am working in architectural visualisation, predominantly I create spherical 360 degree still images.
Rarely I ceate movies (yet).
Picture size typically 12000 x 10000 pixels. Post processing happens with Affinity Photo.

To model and render I use Vray 3.6 for Rhino 5.0. Vray can handle the combined use of CPU & GPU via Cuda.
Still, when doing this the images turn out grainy/noisy despite the denoiser beeing on.
CPU alone rendering works fine but is slow, that why I want the combined power.

My current graphics card Quadro 5000 never shows much usage in the Nvidia GPU utilisation graph and I get an CUDA error 2 : unable to allocate enough memory to perform the requested operation (out-of-mem).
I suspect a settings error.

I'd like to upgrade the graphics card to fix this. The choice is:

Titan Xp or Quadro M5000.

McNeel, manufacturers of Rhino3D suggest that there is no real benefit of using a Quadro over a GeForce card.

https://wiki.mcneel.com/rhino/rhino5videocards

So I wonder if I can get a Titan Xp for the same price as the M5000  should I go for it?

Do I need to upgrade powersupply and/or cooling if I take the Titan?
(The M5000 does not need these upgrades).

Thanks so much,

Pretty
