Final parts to the puzzle. Please note that not all optional parts you could order from HP when you ordered your computer are available as spare parts, but I agree that this one would be reasonable to have available. Your solution is coming together:
1. OP has EliteDesk 800 g3 tower version... he mentions that and gives its part number.
2. The general trend for many of these HP computers is that the motherboard in the SFF and the tower versions are identical or nearly so. Makes sense.... cross compatibility of parts.
3. The tower's technical and service guide has lots of info worth having... see page 73 for MB headers, and my screenshot image below (you can see these when a moderator releases them):
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05382325
4. Here is that screenshot from the manual showing the SD reader's motherboard attachment. Note that above it are two USB3 motherboard headers.... both for out front.... one blue and one black. Those are not used for the SD card reader:
5. From an eBay better resolution G3 motherboard image, zoomed in on that header. It is a USB2 header, and note the SD RDR printed on the motherboard below it. You'll be attaching your part via a USB3 to USB2 adapter, and generally the USB2 end will have a plug populated with 2 sets of wires (but the adapter from HP shown in one of the pictures below appears to be populated with only1 set of wires):
6. These card readers are generally USB2, all the way up to your current box as you can see above. If you found the same form factor from an earlier HP box then it almost certainly fit and work fine. For example, from an earlier related discussion for SD 3 card in HP ProDesk 400 G4 Desktop.... you could use this but you want the SD 4 official version I believe. HERE is the discussion for the older one that I believe also would work, and you just unscrew the plastic plug and screw on the SD card through the metal tab you'll see, with the hole in it shown lower:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/SD-Card-Slot/td-p/6264728
7. So, how might a USB3 plug end SD 4 card reader fit in your box given that its motherboard has a USB2 header for it to attach to? A USB 3 to USB2 adapter.... these are not rocket science adapters, but here is a HP kit with that HP adaper (Assembly Part Number 717387-001). These from HP would be best quality if you can find a kit that includes that. Note the shorter USB3 cord on the SD 4 unit here:
8. Once the part is screwed on and the USB3 to USB2 adapter is put in place the card reader will be plug and play. Note that the same HP parts may be used on different computers and have different part numbers but can be identical otherwise. There is nothing too complicated about this.... it likely could be used at USB3 speeds if you had a spare USB 3 header on your motherboard.
9. Here's a couple of options, and you probably will need the longer version and to buy a generic USB3 to USB2 adapter:
Longer cord SD 4 which appears to be for HP 400 G2, 405 G2, 490 G2, 700G1 (and probably you):
AS P/N: 718266-002
SP P/N: 759030-001
Shorter cord SD 4 which could work fine with a USB3 extension cable presuming it is too short for your box:
AS P/N: 718266-001
SP P/N: 742719-001
Or, you probably could go with the older SD 3 version from that older post linked above.
Hey, I know that nobody has responded to your posts. I want to let you know that this helped me. I too installed the older drivers (vs. the ones provided by Windows 10) and it worked for me too.
The issue has to do with the graphic resolution. The monitors would not support the resolution settings that the graphics drivers have listed. Changing the resolutions settings to include screen settings such as ( eg. HD, HTV...etc..) requires drivers updates.
1) I had to uninstall all the drivers in the in the graphics cards
2) Find updated drivers from the adaptors makers sites and reintall
3) Then go to Bios and enable the VGA options of my monitors
4) Also in Bios lineup the boot sequence of the PIC adaptors cards
5) Then check in the device manger to see if the computer can recongize bother grapic adaptors.
After I did ALL these......... the DUAL screen setup was DONE! I SOLVED THE ISSUE!!
the hp z420 uses the "ENTERPRISE" RST drivers for the "C600" series x99 chipset not the consumer RST driver set
go to the HP site and download the intel SCU drivers, this will enable the drive ports which are not currently working
and the drivers will also enable AHCI/SATA non Raid modes
direct Intel DL link:
I got this weird email - Looks suspicious - but I'm not sure if it's real or not.
I only opened the email - have NOT answered or opened any of it's links
Please adives me ~

Critical Alert for your Laptops and Hybrids
Hi All,
I cannot find the right driver for the RAID controller. Help please!
I'm working on a Z840 workstation with a Windows Server 2016 Datacenter OS.
The hardware ID for the Raid Controller is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2827&SUBSYS_2129103C&REV_05.
Many thanks!!
Would be good if we get an official answer.
We are in a similar situation, only that we use ThinPro.
And we ask us the same question.
Hello to all,
thank you very much for your valuable advice, unfortunately I wanted to bring back my z440 to the original factory state, including the recovery partition (hp recovery manager) and all the pre-installed hp programs.
Honestly, I expected that hp, even for a fee, would give me the kit I'm looking for, but unfortunately I was told that they do not have it.all this always strange if not impossible. !!
I'll let you know if I could get them.
Thank you so much again to everyone.
Claudio
Hi,
I would like to add a 3rd graphic card on my HP Z620.
The HP Z620 comes with only 2x 6 pin PCI-E cables to power graphic cards.
Any thought as to where I could get another 6 pin power connector? I had a quick look at the PSU but found no available 6 pin PCI-e connector.
Using a molex or sata converter seems like a REALLY bad idea if I don't want the whole rig to burst in flames
thanks!
you need the ENTERPRISE Intel RST driver that supports the c600/c220 chipset that x78/99 chipset motherboards use
these drivers are diffrent than the consumer RST drivers (which lack support for the above chipsets)
please use the search function on this board as this driver question is frenquently asked for for the z series workstations
Hi
Please delete your post and replace with a screenshot if you really want.
Hi
Please remove your personal details from any post, delete the current one and maybe do a screenshot if you really need to give details, because you can blank out certain things before posting.
based on the message, it seems you own a HP product that has a hp matainance/updater application on it
this application scans the system and then checks the hp online database for any updates/security patches and
then notifies you either via the application when run or via email if you entered this information into the program
the other way you would get this message is if you bought a new HP system, and filled out the ownership information
either way the message is notifying you of pending security updates. the links in the message you provided are valid HP links
Many thanks for your help!!!!
Thanks for the update and tips!
Imagine someone has succeeded in invading the network (e.g. because the mitigation-patches for the server are not yet ready), then the code of malware could be hidden in the thin client's processor... with admin rights and without getting logged on the client's side.
Its fine DGroves and does my comnputer have enough power for a k620 with the psu at 250w? and the cpu taking 73w.
Me too DG.
To OP..... one solution to answering these power questions is to go into the QuickSpecs for your workstation and see if any of the HP-approved video cards draw more than the card you are considering. I took a quick look and pulled v15 and v25. You can go to the graphics specifications section and see that the cards listed evolve over time as nicer new ones are released. The trend with graphics cards has been that they are using less and less power for the same level of performance as they evolve. I grabbed all cards 30W and higher.
Remember to turn off on-processor video via BIOS once the card is in and running.
Turns out the K600 is HP-approved already.... see p36 HERE. And, here are the wattages:
Z200 SFF v15:
FX380 34W
ATI FirePro V3800 43W
Quadro 600 40W
Z200 SFF v25:
NVS510 33.4W
FirePro V3900 <50W
K600 41W
Quadro 410 38W
