Re: unable to boot from cloned disk

Acronis is very good for backing up data.

However, for cloning Windows 7 operating system disk (or SSD), I use the built-in 'System Backup' in Windows 7, and create an image on an external backup disk, as well as create a bootable CD = System Repair Disc. See all details in:

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/4241/how-to-create-a-system-image-in-windows-7/

Then you can use the bootable CD to clone the image onto a new, empty drive (HDD or SSD) and then boot from the new drive. See details "How to Restore Your Backup with a Recovery Drive" in;

https://www.howtogeek.com/239312/how-to-restore-system-image-backups-on-windows-7-8-and-10/

HP Z620 Blank Screen after BIOS setting

$

I have a Z620 workstation here that i'm using for testing. While configuring the BIOS settings, i enabled Fast Boot and then saved and rebooted. Now when it reboots, it goes to a blank screen, no POST messages. I do get the storage controller startup but afterwards it just sits there. I cant get back into the BIOS to change it back.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hey thanks for the quick update!

Good tip on screwing in the fan, I will try that!

About the PSU - I already have the 600W version, but I think it is still noisy.  Any idea how to take it apart?

Just a quick update: I've been trying to reflash the BIOS by going into Failsafe Boot Block mode but have no luck so far.

DGroves,

Thanks for the reply but this is unfortunately a Special captive screw inside a brass stand off. First thing I did was I bought a standoff kit for the m2.0 and the screw, which does measure 2.04mm, is to big for where this need to go.The threads on this measure 1.46mm so it is either a m1.4 or m1.6 thread.

I have scoured google and only found two references to this screw, both in this forum, that why I'm here but still no joy in finding this little part. Thanks, knelson454.

The Z420 is normally a very quiet machine and when the chassis fan and the PSU fan speed up there is a problem with the temp sensor that is placed were the power button is. I have sold HP Workstations and everytime a Z4X0 or a Z8X0 have chassis fan/s speeding up the issue was the temp sensor.

I would try to replace the sensor before adding third party fans. If you add third party fan as a chassi fan the motherboard will detetct it and warn you at every startup.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Before troubleshooting startup issues, remove or disconnect all discs and devices from the computer.

  • Step 1: Remove discs and devices
  • Step 2: Perform a hard reset
  • Step 3: Run hardware diagnostic tests
  • Step 4: Refresh or reset your PC. Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04718479 to complete the troubleshooting steps. By end of the article, you will be able to fix the issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

if you buy a m.2 kit, you usually have to replace the standoff on the HP board with the one in the kit (so the screw matches) i'm going to guess you are not doing this

look at the turbo z board, note the other holes in the board where the mounting spacer can go, that's your clue that the existing mounting spacer post is removable!!!

Hp Pavilion Game laptop not booting up

Hi..good day all.I will briefly summarise my issue here

First..my pc was fine untill i decided to make an update that was recommended via the auto update feature on windows 10...while it was downloading the last segment...i noticed nothing was been downloaded.I decided to reset my internet and it wasnt still downloading...So i made up my mind to restart the pc

the pc kept showing “ restarting pc”  for a long period of that i couldnt wait any longer and i had to press and and hold the power button for 4 seconds to forcefully shut it down....

I went off and restarting became an issue.....it was passing the the hp logo but wasnt passing through the black screen.....after following up some of the solutions provided and no sucesss...i decided to use the recovery feature to switch it back to factory settings

I started the recovery process around 12 am and even at 8am...it was stillon the process(ps i had close 650gb free out of the 1tb space and i chose not to keep my files coz all my important stuffs were in my external hdd)

i left for work around 8am with the recovery process still going on...and when i came back home (pc was off ) dnt know what really happend could be battery ran down or it finished everything and shut down...i had no idea since i wasnt at home)

Upon booting it up....everything game up and it got to a point it said admistrator bla bla and it kept loading(i think it was the lock screen)

After then...it would restart and the provess was on loop untill it finally stopped loading....was only booting to hp logo.

I cant access the recovery menu coz after a while...it would say pc ran into a problem and will restart on a blue screen(happens each time i tried accesing the recovery menu) and as at filing this complain....am trying to access the recovery menu but there is a hp logo that says please wait and its like its gonna be there forever.

What else can i do please to bring the pc back to life

It actually speeds up when powered on, to the point where it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. After that it settles down to a RELATIVELY very much more quiet level  - but still way to much for my taste. I think the problem is everybody have a different idea of what is quiet.

I have now screwed the back chassis fan as suggested by SDH, and that has taken care of the grinding edge noise from that fan. I still hear it, but I can live with it.

Only remaining fan noise now is from the PSU.

How bad it is. Well I sit next to the server, and I can have a normal conversation without having to raise my voice -but when I switch it off my ears are ringing (tinnitis) so it definitely is still too loud.  Like I said, I think the problem is just that everybody has a different idea of what is too noisy.
