Another quick question how does one install it properly?

Re: Graphics card upgrade?

Hi:

What you need to do first before installing the video card is to go to the device manager, click to expand the display adapters device manager category.

Right click on the Intel graphics adapter listed there, select uninstall and check the uninstall driver box.

Shut down, unplug the PC and install your Nvidia graphics card.

The PC should automatically disable the onboard graphics, recognize the video card and then you would install the drivers for it if Windows doesn't install them automatically.

It depends on what version of Windows you're running on there, as to whether or not the graphics driver will automatically install.

Consult the service manual for your PC for the actual video card installation procedure...

usually you install the thunderbolt software FIRST, reboot and then install the card (z840 slot 5 which you have done)

try removing the software and then the card and reinstall for the HP SP driver file,

Installing Thunderbolt Controller driver (tbtxxx) triggers the full SW package installation.

also this driver is a later version and should support your card (check your cards hardware id against the driver's list)

TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc1575 = 'Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 1575'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc1577 = 'Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 1577'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc15BF = 'Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 15BF'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc15D2 = 'Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 15D2'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc15D9 = 'Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 15D9'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc15E8 = 'Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 15E8'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc15EB = 'Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 15EB'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc15DC = 'Intel(R) Controller - 15DC'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc15DD = 'Intel(R) Controller - 15DD'
TbtBusDrv_DeviceDesc15DE = 'Intel(R) Controller - 15DE'

That question is beyond my capability to answer, since I am not extremely familiar with Dell PC's, and what newer/better graphics cards your specific model can run.

I have a Dell OptiPlex 7020 MT (Intel 4th gen core processor) with a 290W power supply, but I figured that could probably run the nVidia GT 1030, which it did with no problem.

Your PC has an older BIOS, and may not be able to run graphics cards newer than the nVidia GT 6xx series or AMD Radeon HD 6xxx series.

Therefore, I suggest you post your question on the Dell OptiPlex desktop support forum...

not specifying which cloning software, and how it was used is a great way to get no help!! both Have numerous cloning modes

 do Advanced Boot Options ?
"repair your computer" option works? Don't select "startup repair" afterwards but "command prompt". In command prompt type

diskpart
select disk 0
list part
list  vol
exit

next please look at the windows 7 log files, they should give you a starting point

  • Open Notepad by going to Start | All Programs | Accessories | Notepad or opening the Run dialog, typing notepad.exe, and clicking OK.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\ and open the file ntbtlog.txt.
  • Pour through the boot log to troubleshoot whatever issue you are having. You can also see what service pack the machine has installed from this log.

  1. Open the registry by typing regedit at the run dialog.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Sharedtools/MSconfig.
  3. Look in the StartupFolder and StartupReg folders to see what is loading

or, simply install a new ssd/HD drive and install windows 10 and then your required applications

HPDM5 VNC shadow not working for T430 ThinPro after upgrading agent to 5.0.3674.37373

We recently upgraded our HPDM4.7 sp11 to HPDM5.0 SP1

Our T430 ThinPro thin clients have agent version 4.7.3674.33464.

Shadow device with HPDM5.0SP1 is working, no problem.

After upgrading the agent version to 5.0.3674.37373 the "shadow device" is not working anymore.

HPDM gives the error:

ErrorCode: 14004132, Error Detail: Create VNC process failure., Error Info: No trust store for VNC SSL Connection.

What changed in the new agent version and how can we fix it?

Thanks,

Ruud

Actually very simple.

HPDM in "VNC Certificate Management" says:

In order to enable the new certificates, we must deploy the new trust store to devices, sending an _Apply Settings task to enable VNC will update the device trust store accordingly.

Solved!

I pulled the card out, but I can't find the TB driver to uninstall ?

So I can't uninstall the driver.

Maybe that's my problem, the driver from HP's official website is not installed probably  and doesn't function ??

I tried to download another driver via the link from your post, but my virus protection software is not allowing it to download, it says that the .exe file is dangerous.

Thanks for replying, DGroves.

Sorry for being not clear enough about the cloning. With Acronis booted from USB stick, I made a normal backup of the complete disk, shut down the system, swapped the disks and then restored it to the new disk. This works when the restore goes to the same (original) disk in the Z640, as I found out at another occasion. But when going to the new disk I get the Blue Screen. With the other software I went with 'standard parameters' for cloning directly from disk to disk (both plugged in via USB adapters to another computer) I would have to do it again to be sure what the parameters were.

I wasn't able to get anywhere with F8 during boot. But possibly the window of opportunity was too short. However, after the unsuccessful repair run I have the option to open a command prompt. list part shows three partitions, 199 MB system, 128 MB Reserved and 238 GB Primary. That looks like on the source drive (including the offsets).

List vol shows (among data disks and DVD)

Volume 1   C   OS   NTFS 238 GB Healthy

Volume 2                 Fat32 100 MB Healthy

All other volumes have drive letters.

The ntbtlog.txt files has a date from last April. So I am not sure it will help to find current problems.  It goes over several pages, some "Did not load drive" lines popping up more than once. But I did not see anything I was able to connect to boot problems. Windows 7 is current as of last week, all service packs and updates installed.

In the registry, under HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Sharedtools/ there is only Msinfo and Stationery, but no MSconfig.

The whole purpose of the cloning was to keep the old hard disk as is and to run an in-place Windows10 update on the cloned one. So that if parts of the machines that are controlled by this box should turn out to cause problems under Windows 10, I have a quick way of going back and forth by simply swapping disks until the problems are solved. A new installation causes a lot of extra work, since all the users and their settings would have to be reinstalled. And I have three of those boxes to update (to of them have this Blue Screen problem, the third not tested yet).

Cinematica,

An interesting turn of events. Yes, it's logical that the special problem of 2014 as described in the white paper would have been solved eventually.

If one assumes that the vendor installed Windows and configured the system, it's logical to assume that the differential settings and changes made subsequently between your systems and the replicated system are the reason for the problems.

Before reloading Windows, consider obtaining a detailed description of absolutely every setting in BIOS and other system configuration choices of the replicated system.  Perhaps the seller could send screen shots of the relevant configuration screens. Do not rely on default settings for the reason mentioned of some differential settings. Set a restore point and test the system before any software or added hardware is added except for the GPU.  Ensure that all software and drivers are the latest version.  Make one change at a time and set a new restore point to be able to revert if necessary.

May I add..... HP has for years had "Replicated Setup" built into its workstation BIOS.  One can capture all the BIOS settings from within BIOS onto a thumb drive, and that is as a small text file.  That can then be sent via email to another owner who can then use the same BIOS feature to upload those settings into their workstation.

I'd ideally zip the CPQSETUP.txt file that gets created before I attached it to an email to ensure that it remained unmodified by the sending process.  This makes setting up a BIOS clone easy.

You can capture yours and receive theirs.... and you can print them both out to see where things differ if you want.  They all have the same name so archive them in carefully identified folders.
