Hi I found the solution by accident.  Go into BIOS -> Storage -> Storage Options

Change sata emulation from" Raid+AHCI" to "IDE"

Hit F5 to save changes

Just for giggles try and switch sata emulation  back to "RAID + AHCI"

A warning message about OPAL appears....  Do not hit ok or F5....

Hope this helps someone

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  1. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

So I bought my computer from a small business and they had it wiped by an IT company, but it’s still attached to its network as it will not let me update it Because of the administrators access. I have the password but can’t figure out how to bypass it. Anyway possible?

Hi

Wiped you say?

How about you get the W7 licence info, I use Belarc Advisor for serial numbers etc.

Then CONSIDER a wipe and re-install of your own. Download and make DVD/USB.

Z820 Fan Speed Control?

$

I'm looking to see if someone from HP or someone with some technical knowledge can give some information to help us all out.  can get the information on the PWM controllers for the fans?

There has been ongoing set of posts about cooling / fan sppeds on the Z820,  some people "think" that the fan speed doesn't increase as load/temperature increases on the Z820,  but it definitely does, however,  not at a rate most enthusiasts are accustomed to and nowhere near the higher fan speeds the system is capable of.   It is well suited for its original purpose and meets the design goals of keeping it quiet.

Since a lot of these systems are now ending up in the hands of enthusiasts who enjoy pushing them very hard at times, and even upgrading them etc,  we can max out the default ability for the system to cool itself with the built-in thermal fan speed ramping.  The workaround is to increase the idle fan speed in bios, and although that will keep the system cool,  it makes it always noisy all the time, which is really not necessary most of the time.

There are 3rd party tools that can monitor temps and load and adjust fan speeds but, in order to use those we need more information that does not seem readily available.  if we can get the information on the PWM controllers for the fans so we can set up those programs, that would be great.  I am assuming there on the SMBus or ISA bus.  This would let us set up programs like fanspeed to fill the gap.

Thanks!

Hey BambiBoomZ,

hope you're doing fine,

I just wanted to let you know that today I've received 4x4GB HP662609-571 Hynix RAMs and it works!

I'm now running on 24GB and it gives a significant boost ;)

Once again - many thanks for your help.

You're the one who made it possible for me!

All the best,

Denis

Z600 CPU Upgrade - 01/30/09 Boot Block Date - Will not accept X5570 / M2 SSD Boot OS ?

$

Hello,

I know there has been multiple historic threads regarding CPU upgrades on the Z600 but my situation is a strange one.

My system was shiped with 2 x X5550 with the earlier 01/30/09 Boot Block Date which limits upgrades with X55xx CPUs only.

However when fitted with 2 x X5570 the system refuses to boot even the BIOS. But everything works perfectly with the X5550 refitted.

Why will the system not boot the X5570s? I have installed the latest BIOS 3.61.

Also - old threads suggest that these Z600 can not bot from M2 SSD on PCIe cards - is this still the case ?

Kind Regards

Hi all

I have a couple of upgrade related issues (or non-issues depending on viewpoint) that I have been unable to find any documentation for (official or otherwise).

Usually, I stay within HP´s specifications whenever I upgrade HP hardware and usually I find the solutions for my issues by searching this or other forums whenever I get stuck. My problems tend to be pretty generic...

This one, however, Is a bit left field and all my searches for answers takes me to listings on eBay, Amazon or aliexpress...

So. Here I am with my stupid questions hoping not to make a complete idiot out of myself by asking you guys for some guiding.

My personal workstation is a Z600 C2 (Boot block 01/07/10) with BIOS v3.60 currently running a single Xeon X5650.

Nothing strange so far.

But when it comes to the RAM, things get a bit strange. Just a bit, but still...
My Z600 runs two sticks of 16gb RAM in dual channel for a total of 32gb with one CPU installed. Both sticks are recognized by the BIOS and by Win10pro.

zpuid.png

According to the official specifications, The Z600 should not run on any kind of 16gb dimms. According to the lovely rep at HP´s phone support it shouldn´t even boot in this configuration according to hes spec sheet... But as you can see, it does.

I bought this workstation to do actual work on it and it does everything I need it to do. My software (graphic design/CAD-stuff) is from the same generation and utilises the hardware quite well and the dual channel instead of triple has not been an issue for my workload. My actual needs are fulfilled with this setup, But my inner 12-year old's needs are not.
The RAM oddity stayed in the back of my head and now, when prices are low, i really want to see how much performance i can shoehorn into the original case. Like when I used to browse the server parts catalogue as a kid, Circling the parts i wanted but could never afford. Well, Now I can!

OK. that's the background. Now to my questions.
Has anyone here bought one of those maxed out Z600´s of eBay or Amazon (or upgraded by your self) with 96gb RAM and do they actually work? I couldn't see why they wouldn't knowing what I know, But then again, The HP spec says 48gb max.

Has anyone actually got a dual 135 watt CPU setup running with Z800 or Z400 performance heatsinks (or after market ones)?
I've seen the posts and I've done all the research. I know about the fifth pin jumper wire and that the Z800 heatsink is really expensive and that you can't close the lid with the Z400 ones installed. I've read all the threads about it and they all end in the same way. with nothing concluded other than it should be possible. I found a french guy who seemed to have got it to work 4 years ago with water cooling from a Z800, but he was french and wrote in french using french words made for french people and he did'nt specify the CPU's...
But everyone seems to get stuck on the same CPU power related error on bootup and then the posts stop. So are there any examples of this upgrade actually working in the real world?
The world where 2x16gb RAM is working on a Z600, that is...

1,  Should work because the X5570 is listed in the early QuickSpecs (for the version 1 Z600) as an approved 95W max TDP processor just like your X5550 is.  I'd try to boot with one and see if you have one good and one bad.

2.  I've posted in here on the one M.2 card in its PCIe adapter that works..... the Kingston Predator, running on one very specific storage controller driver.  It is not easy but can be done.  Those can be found at times used off eBay.
