HPDM in separate VLAN from clients - how to capture/deploy images?

$

Recently, the network security guys made a policy of segregating servers like the HPDM server from clients, like our HP thin clients. Now, when I push settings changes and small stuff from the HPDM to the clients, that works fine, but doing anything like a capture or deploy results in the client rebooting into Windows PE mode, but then sitting there on the screen that says "Set Shared Folder" and then finally rebooting after 10 minutes of doing nothing.

The error on the HPDM when this happens reads as follows:

[Error Details]: Deploy image using repository Master Repository.
Failed to download t5740_2017-5_ff52.ibr from /Repository/Images/t5740_2017-5-ff52.
Failed to execute DeployImage task.
ErrorCode: 1083392, Error Info: \Ndm\branches\Release_4.6.5\Source\Cpp\Agents\Core\Task\common\ImageTask.cpp@250:	Failed to connect the shared folder.
\Ndm\branches\Release_4.6.5\Source\Cpp\Agents\Core\Task\common\ImageTask.cpp@249:	The network path was not found.
\Ndm\branches\Release_4.6.5\Source\Cpp\Agents\Core\Task\common\ImageTask.cpp@250:	Failed to connect the shared folder.
\Ndm\branches\Release_4.6.5\Source\Cpp\Agents\Core\Task\common\ImageTask.cpp@249:	The network path was not found.

Can anyone tell if this is possible to do? What ports do I need to open between the two VLANs in order to allow this to work?

Anyone have Intel i350 NIC working in Z230?

I'm trying to install an Intel i350 4-port NIC in my Z230 SFF. After I insert the card in either Slot 1 (PCH PCIe 2.0 x4 in x16) or Slot 4 (CPU PCIe 3.0 x16) and power on, the Z230 SFF beeps 5 times and will not complete POST or display any video.

If you have an i350-based NIC working in your Z230 Tower / SFF could you please post your NIC model and Z230 BIOS version?

Thanks!

The deploy is supposed to happen without PXE, of course - I know that PXE broadcasts will fail across VLANs. Is there any way to open up a log screen while in the WinPE deploy environment on the client, in order to see more details about the problem? Right now the client machines don't tell me anything at all; they just sit at a screen for 10 minutes and reboot. It'd be nice to see what they're seeing.

What networking protocols are used for the multi-step process of capturing and/or deploying an image? The newest 4.7 HPDM shows HTTPS, SFTP, FTP/FTPS, and "Shared Folders" (which I assume is a way of saying SMB - although I wish they'd just #!$# say SMB then haha).

My clients all get stuck at the WinPE screen, "Set Up Share Folder" text on the screen, then reboot after ten minutes. There has to be some way to get client-side logs to see more of what is happening on the client. The server logs are the ones I posted in the original post.

As I understand you want to check your warranty status with HP,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Do you get any error message while using the "www.support.hp.com/checkwarranty" website?

While you respond to that, I recommend you make use of the private message feature within HP Forums and reply back with the product & Serial number,

And I'll look that up for you Smiley Wink

VFIO error in HP ML30 GEN 9

Hello,

I am using SLES 12 OS and I am trying to bind a PCIe device using PCIe Passthrough solution. When I complete the binding operation, after one minute, the machine's fans start to work very fast, the healt led turns red and blinks and after some minutes, it turns again green.

On the other hand, the GUI of the OS became very unresponsive, I could not even complete simple commands like "ls" or "lspci", so I had to restar the machine manually.

Do you know if I need to update or do something with the machine in order to achieve this PCIe Passthrough goal?

Techincal data of the machine:

HP Proliant ML30 Gen9

BIOS Version: V23 v2.00 (01/17/2017)

System Memory: 16GB

1 Processor(s) detected, 4 total cores enabled, Hyperthreading is enabled.

Proc 1: Intel (R) Xeon (R) CPU E3-1270 v5 @ 3.60GHz.

Knowing that when I put it in other slot It Show me the same message.

it shows there are 10GB but only 2 GB are usable.

Did I  try the RAM on another device or what ?

High performance wrkstations like your xw 6400 have very specific requirements for installed memory.

Did you purchase guaranteed compatible memory?

This is from the Hardware Service and Technical Reference manual for your workstation. You did not follow the requirements! All of the modules muct be matched by size and type. That is, quite specifically, what you did not do.  Correct that and all should work as expected. Four identical PC2-5300F DIMMS from the same manufacturer should give you 32 GB of installed memory. Read the reference guide carefully. Remove the 2GB module and put the 8GB module in slot 1.

MMemory module requirements
Use only industry-standard, registered PC2-5300F DIMMs
Match DIMM pairs by size and type
No support for unbuffered memory

From the HP QuickSpecs for the xw6400 the maximum memory listed there is 16GB.  Erico is giving good advice that it is best to not mix in different sizes of RAM, or at least to have the two banks of ram with identical sizes and HP certified.

A HP engineer who helps us here, Dan_WGBU, has stated multiple times that the very best way to go is to have all memory slots filled with identical RAM.  That way you get the added benefit of the memory controller chipset being able to run the RAM most efficiently, with an extra boost in performance.  So, for you the best would be 4 identical 4GB sticks to get to 16GB total.  Why not 8GB x 4 slots in your xw6400?

Well, I tried that.  You may not know that the xw8600 is certified to run specific 8GB sticks.  I did research and found that the memory controller for the xw6600 and the xw8600 is the same, but it is different from that of the xw6400.  I purchased some of those 8GB official HP sticks of RAM, and tried them in my xw6600..... worked perfectly even though the xw6600 is not officially certified to run those 8GB sticks.  Sometimes parts for one  HP workstation will work in another but HP did not take the time to test that configuration deeply enough to officially certify that part for both.

But, when those same HP 8GB sticks were moved to my xw6400 test workstation they would not work at all (presumably due to it having the older type of memory controller).

To hear HP via AMT has left the gates open to my z210 workstation since 2010 just adds to the view that nobody cares about my security and privacy.

Meanwhile, Intels AMT detection tool didn't yield useful results since i disabled AMT and it's windows services.

But it's good to see HP came to the party and documented their responce as to how and in what time frame they will fix this AMT security failure. So hopefully my z210 Workstation will see the updated ME firmware released on time by 12th May 2017.

What's of bigger concern is how the OEM industry simply took a module provided by their supplier (Intel) and did not perform any due diligence testing on this firmware module to ensure the final product they were selling was secure and thus fit for purpose. So it's either a massive failure across the many OEM's, which seems just a little too difficult to fathom, or something else a little more on the 'tin foil hat' side of the equation that is at play.

In any case, for me trust was broken some time ago when socketted BIOS chips were removed from motherboards while UEFI with secure boot tried to lock me out of my own property.

Good luck to those that think "Windows 10 S" is a good idea...

[edited to add following]

Though it's good to see HP's AMT security bulletin, i'd have thought this document should be shown when clicking "Advisories" or "Bulletins and Notices" within the z210 Support page. Yet it's not

Yes, I agree it is good that HP have responded to this. I have been more than happy with their service over the years - hopefully they will resolve this issue quickly. I suspect my machines are not affected - but suspecting is not knowing! Some of these machines will also be being used by the public after business desktop upgrades and sales via third parties. I suspect these users also do not know.

HP Z420 not booting up -HELP pls

Hi,

Setup:

HPZ420

CPU:xeon E5-1620 v2,

RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1600MHz (4x2GB) loaded into the numbered slots

SSD: samsung 950 pro (as noted on these forums this should boot from out of the box),

M.2 adapter: Asus hyper m.2 x4 adapter

However it starts up, shows the HP screen for about a second, with '...ROM options' and 'press esc to enter setup' etc then goes to black and stays there.  Even when i press escape it says 'enterring setup...' but just the same happens (goes to black).  The graphics card must still be sending a signal because the monitor only goes to sleep when i turn the PC off.

Here is what i have tried so far, with no change:

-Tried booting from HDD

-Tried taking out two of the four sticks of RAM in case they were faulty

-Tried switching the SSD position from the PCIe 3.0 x8 slot to the PCIe 2.0 x4  above

-Tried inserting the windows 7 boot disk

Any ideas?

Crucial MX300 Non-system disk error

Just migrated OS and data from old Intel 80GB SSD to a new Crucial MX300 275GB SSD using Paragon Drive Copy.
Switching old with new SSD I got a Non-system disk error from Bios.

I did have used the same migration sw successfully with my laptop and the SSD is supposed to work since was recognized as USB device during the copy, there is anything specific I need to do or might be some incompatibility problem btw the old chipset / Sata II interface and this new SSD.
