Trying to add a 6gb/s LSI Raid SAS9212-4i card so I can basically use a SSD as a single boot drive and get 6gb/s speeds. Have used a cheap SATA 6gb/s card with decent results but those cards are fairly cheap and their performance isn't that great.
Installed the card in a PCI-E 8X slot and the extra 16X slot.
Got to the onboard SAS controller and get a ROM - OUT OF MEMORY error.
System will boot from the onboard SAS RAID 0 boot drive - no problem and will recognize the SSD drive on the PCI-E card LSI.
BUT you cannot get the OS to recognize the card to boot from the PCI-E card with the ONBOARD LSI controller enabled.
I disabled the onboard LSI SAS controller, do not get the memory error and the PCI-E controller shows up when attempting to do a boot. Shows the drive etc.
SO - what am I missing - is the BIOS unable to handle a secondary SAS CARD or is it a problem with TWO LSI controllers being in the same system?
When the onboard is enabled and you get the error and the sytem boots up the SSD on the PCI-E controller is pretty slow when you do a SSD test. The sequential reads get in the 500 range and the writes are about 400+
The problem is in the 4k writes - SUPER SLOW for some reason. When I used the cheapo SATA 3 card the speeds were pretty much in spec.
