I have a z620. (Not z600).

Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
Here is where your link goes to: http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/
Once I got to that webpage, that is where I looked for the REFIND code. So as best I can tell, I used the link you provided. But independent of that, I have not plugged the REFIND USB Drive into the computer yet, so it (at this point) has no role in where things are presently at.
I suspect I need to redo my Win10 USB Drive and put Windows 10 on it with RUFUS. I used the Microsoft Tool to create the Win10 USB Drive and it did not ask about nor give an option to create a UEFI version. I assumed it was built in. But perhaps it is not. RUFUS explicitly calls it out. So I think I will try this next.
Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
D GROVES: now,......................................... what does the below mean?
if you remove the win 10 install usb key, and boot the system does refind+duet load and show the loader screen? Me: I did not plug in the REFIND USB Drive yet. Per campdublanc's instruction list, I did not get to the point in the installation, far enough into the installation, where I was supposed to remove the Win10 USB Drive' and replace it with the REFIND USB Drive. Would you suggest I try this?
* * * * * * * *
What it means is I got into the Windows 10 installation, files were being written to my NVMe card, and then my z620 went off into RECOVERY rather than to the place that, per campdublanc's instruction list, I should remove the Win10 USB Drive and replace it with the REFIND USB Drive. So I did not do the USB swap (yet). I could try plugging in the REFIND USB Drive regardless, power up my z620 and see what happens.
Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
sorry your header said z600 in it
the refind usb key MUST BE INSTALLED once you install the nvme drive and the system must be configured to boot from that key....... NO KEY = NO WIN 10 INSTALL or BOOT
Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
i'm not understanding you,...................again the refind USB key must always be inserted and the system must boot from that usb key........... doesn't matter if doing a win install or booting a installed win 10 the refind key must be installed and you need to see the refind boot screen on startup if not then you will be unable to install win 10 or boot from a installed win 10 using a nvme drive
z240 workstation ubuntu 18.04 cuda installation
I purchased a z240 workstation pre-installed with windows 10. Works great!
I would like to turn it into an ubuntu 18.04 with gpu drivers and cuda support. Mine comes with NVIDIA Quadro P1000. That should be possible based on everything I read.
Does anyone have a recipe on this to share?
...Or any suggestions...or why not to do it?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
HP T610 wont receive task from HP Device Manager 5.0
I have installed HP Device Manager on Windows Server 2012 R2 and have got the HP Device Manager 5.0 detecting all of the thin clients from HP T630 to HP T620, T610, T5740e.
I am able to capture images from T630 devices and deploy images to HP T630 devices but no other models of thin clients.
When trying to send any task to T610 devices, Hp Device Manager Device Task sits stuck on 'Sending" and wont go any further.
I have tried many T610 devices as well as T620 and T5740e but all of them dont move to "Processing" like it does with the T630 devices.
I have disabled the firewall on both the server and the thin clients but no change.
When looking at c:\Windows\xpeagent\network.log, i notice that I get Failed to read 5 bytes from 10.xxx.xxx.xxx (server). Not sure why as I am able to open files remotely from the server to the thin client and from the thin client to the server using authenitcaion of the local devices.
The server is part of a domain but the thin clients are not part of the domain. The T630 works fine as part of the workgroup but not any of the other models.
I have deleted the key0.key and key1.key file but no change.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: HP Z420 wont post with XFX RX580
Already tried that, no change.
I only want to use 1x PCIe3x16 (prefered slot 2) and PCI (Slot 6), that should not use to much lanes.
As soon as i get a PCIe Riser i will try if the card is working in slot 5.
HP Workstation Z820 DVD device after WIN10 update
Hello,
after the update of our WS Z820 we discoverd that the DVD drive isn't displayed in the file explorer.
I found out, that the DVD device was not listed in the device manager and there were not 'devices with problems' in the tree as well.
I checked following things:
- the DVD device is connected correctly with the board
- the DVD device is discovered in BIOS
- I didn't see any problems as I select the hidden device view in the device manager
My question is:
Do I have the wrong driver installed during the win10 update or do is miss a suitable driver for the DVD?
Unfortunatelly, I didn't find any driver on the HP support portal...
Thanks for any help in advance!!

Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
DGroves - yu da man !
campdublanc - yu da man tu !
Got it !
I am now running my z620 from Windows 10 on my 970 EVO Plus. Yay !
Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
I have powered up my z620 and restarted a couple times now and everything seems to be working well.
I took careful notes along the way. Some things were a little different than what campdublanc had in his notes. (I assume campdublanc is a him; no offense intended if it is a her). I will think about how best to post my notes so others can do this on their z620 - my notes have quite a bit more content, i.e., are longer, than those of campdublanc.
Greatly appreciate the help on this community forum. Would not have been able to do this w/o the help and notes of DGroves and campdublanc.
Re: HP Workstation Z820 DVD device after WIN10 update
There have been HP DVD players over the years that are less compatible than others. Some have firmware updaters from HP. You can find those in the HP Z820 drivers listing under Firmware. I've found the more recent ones are more compatible, and they are quite reasonably priced used off eBay. As Apple would tell you they are so unused these days that most you'd find on eBay would be the equivalent of new.
So, go find one with a later part number than yours (that info is on the label) and get one of those as a replacement. You'd want a Read/Writer, not just a Reader.
How common is this issue? Uncommon, but not rare. I have a stash of "known good" HP DVD drives that I can swap in when I'm doing a project and run up against this. Some original ones even would not let me install the OS using the HP OEM COA W7Pro64 "Restore" kit that I generally use for ZX20 workstations.
Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
Please do post your notes..... you've gone through the process in detail, and the tips would be greatly appreciated.
Re: HP Workstation Z820 DVD device after WIN10 update
Hi,
See if following the guidance in steps 4, 5 or 6 at the link below resolve the problem.
Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
Good to read you got it working! I'm a dude indeed lol..
A tip, when you open the refind.conf file on the USB drive and set timeout at -1
The boot process will not show the refind boot options menu and will continu straight on with the Windows boot.
Saves you a couple of seconds when booting up!
Would love to read your notes 😃
Re: Booting to NVMe ON Z820 HP AND Z600
Buffalo_Rider,
Glad to hear you got it working, i'm not that good at writing a detailed "how to" guide which is why i asked campdublanc to modify my postings to him where he felt i was unclear and repost it.
Any updates you can make to the install directions will help others and will be appreciated
one last tip, sometimes when doing a MS update and restarting you might get stuck at the REFIND boot options screen, if so simply clicking on the left icon that is the four blue squares the boot will resume normally
setting the boot time to -1 may prevent this, but i don't really use my z systems on a day to day usage anymore so reboots are infrequent
elitedesk 800 g4 dm support cpu microcode
Why not update microcode to use 9th CPU on elitedesk 800 g4 dm?
Is there a way?
Re: elitedesk 800 g4 dm support cpu microcode
this forum is user to user, as such i have no information other than what is available from HP itself
due to this i can not answer questions like yours as i have no information other than what is publicly available
while sometimes users find ways to support non hp approved cpu's on some motherboards, this is not a hp approved practice
and can not be done on every system/motherboard, if a google search shows nothing, then it's most likely none exist
Re: Do Restore files include a back up of the system registry?
I understand the recovery process and that it restored to factory conditions. What I'm trying to find out is if the backup process captures the registry files.
