Re: Creative Soundblaster GS3 not detected

DGroves - thanks for the feedback

The GS3 uses Bluetooth OR Aux in OR USB as inputs, as per their advertising

I have managed to get the unit functioning by replacing the supplied USB-C to USB-C cable with another (better quality, perhaps) charging cable from another device. There was obviously an issue with the first of my own cables that I tried.

More testing by myself may discover why the first 2 cables did not work.

hi SDH,

I bought it as a Linux Box and then installed the window 11 OS properly.

That why i got the issue when I remove the USB installer, the PC doesn't boot to WIN11,
But when I I plug the USB installer, it can boot normally.

Hi:

You can start the HP partner application process from the link below:

https://partner.hp.com/login

If you're already a HP partner, you should have an HP partner representative you could work with regarding programs like GEM.

A few clarifications:

1. DGroves accidentally mixed-up info on the Z4 G4 with the Z8 G4. It is the Z4 G4 that has two physically different motherboards, one officially for the Xeon and the other officially for the Core Intel processors. Neither of those Z4 G4 motherboards can run Optane memory. Both can run the Optane SSDs that HP lists in their QuickSpec documents.

2. Faster memory cannot make a slower processor run faster. Your processor is rated by Intel to max out at 2933. I think it would be a good idea to get two more memory sticks identical to what you currently have, rather than Optane memory.

3. There is a good HP White Paper document on Optane memory use in the Z6 G4 & Z8 G4 (referenced in the Z8 G4 QuickSpecs under the Optane memory section) that does not link properly and can be hard to find... A copy is attached below as a PDF for reference, but I agree technology has moved on from that.

4. By the way... quality M.2 NVMe4 SSDs run faster in the ZX G4 generation of workstations despite the PCIe slot technology in those topping out at NVMe3. Same thing for the ZX40 family of HP workstations. That's what I'd recommend investing in too if you're not already running good NVMe3 M.2 SSD(s). I have not tested a NVMe5 M.2 SSD in those yet.

White screen , PC powers up but can't communicate to the screen.

I have tried everything: different cables, hard reset, opened case and removed battery to drain all electricity and again nothing.

I have premium Care support with next day on site assistance, but reaching out to HP has been difficult.

Wow, that is a great document, many thanks! Will dive into it tomorrow!

I already have 192GB of RAM, so I don't need an upgrade. I was just curious what these modules would bring.

I the past I even got the VROC update key to see what that would bring. But VRON needs specific types of NMVE ssd's which I did not manage to get (maybe eassier nowadays).

I am running a Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus as a system drive. And 4 nvme's in RAID0 (no harm if I lose that data, it's just a quick work environmnet for video editing).

That is part of the HP Link-5 technology. It is a wireless dongle, easy to find via eBay. I've attached a PDF below. You can even buy a used HP Link-5 mouse that includes a dongle and throw away the used mouse and keep the dongle. They don't seem to ever go bad. That one dongle can serve as an interface for up to 5 total HP Link-5 devices via a USB2 or USB3 port. You can link Link-5 device(s) to the dongle quite easily. Note the icon on the dongle... make sure to get one with that.

Added tidbits: These don't run on Bluetooth technology, which uses up more power and thus battery life has been much better with the Link-5 mice in my experience.

HP Easy Shell doesn't start automatically on a T655 after HP Device Manager deployment

Hello.

I have an issue with the automatic run of HP easyshell on a t655 thinclient.

The problem is that it does not run automatically even though kiosk mode is enabled.

The EasyShell config is being pushed from HPDM to the thin client but the shell does not run.

The only way to get it to run is to deactivate the WF, then go into the easyshell settings, deactivate Kiosk Mode, then hit Apply and then activate it again and Hit Apply again.

As you can understand this cannot be done manually for all my thin clients so i was hopping if someone else has the same issue and can help in some way.

I am using HPDM v. 5.0.14

Thank you.

Does NVMe M.2 fit into the NVMe0 slot of HP Z4 G5 Workstation? If so, which side?

Re: HP Z4 G5 Workstation

The answer is Yes. That is the lower of the two M.2 sockets on the motherboard's bottom front corner. It is also known as the primary M.2 socket and the one just above it is the secondary M.2 socket. Same on the Z4 G4 Xeon motherboards. The Core motherboards for the Z4 G4 only have one socket there.

You should download your Z4 G5 manual from  HERE .

There is an excellent official HP video on Z4 G5 teardown that includes good views of the M.2 socket area HERE . Note that at around 1:30 in the video shows one primary M.2 SSD in place in the bottom primary socket and no M.2 in the upper secondary socket. That is what you'd do if you're just running a M.2 as your boot/applications drive.

HP Warranty Check Site

What alternatives are there to check warranty status for HP devices if the warranty check site is broken?

It seems every time I look up warranty status for any of my  HP devices, I get "This site is unavailable" or "can't find this device".

Is there any alternatives other than calling support?

No, a standard M.2 NVMe disk will not fit into the NVMe0. Standard M.2 disks do fit in one of the two PCIe M.2 Sockets.

You can see it here: HP Z4 G5 - System Board Overview

The NVMe0 is number 7 on that image and the PCIe M.2 Sockets has number 21. I am not sure, but i think the NVMe0 is dedicated for the optional HP CRU Secure High Performance Storage Module.

Re: HP Replacement battery

Just your last point, regarding to the power supply was the main reason why I asked you help for. The power supply of the battery offered at the parts webpage is 0,9 Wh less than the one that's assembled on my laptop. I wouldn't have questioned anything if both would've been approx the same. Normally it's common to install a more powerful batteries instead of less powerful ones and as I had to pay 4 times the market price I wanted not to make any mistake choosing the battery.

Of course, is the only one available when I place my laptop part number/model, but it didn't seem to be logical at all.

Thank you for your help.

The modules I mean go into the DIMM slots, so like memory modules. The one's I ordered are 128GB each, and I am looking at configuring them in 'Storage mode'. Curious to see how fast this storage is.

From the documentation I see it cannot be configured as a boot-device, which is a pitty (was hoping for a fast-er boot device). And I hope 2 DCPMM modules will work, looking at the diagram on page 22.

Nice experiment (I hope) 😁
