How enabled or install parallel port on dc5800
Re: How enabled or install parallel port on dc5800
Some dc5800 desktop PC were delivered with a paralell port as an option. Most were not.
Since yours does not have a paralell port, you will need is to install a low profile paralell port adapter. They are available in PCI and PCIe x1 versions.
There are examples on the following Google web search that I did.

Re: Z400 Aftermarket Upgrades
Hello All,
It's been a while but the W3680 has really brought new life to the Z400..
Can I use modern graphics cards with this tower? I was hoping for a new AMD RX-480. At $200 looks like a good deal..
Re: Z400 Aftermarket Upgrades
Hello All!
It's been a while but the new CPU has brought new life to the Z400.
I'm wondering if anyone has used a newer graphics card with this workstation? I was thinking of getting an AMD RX-480.
Also, can someone confirm this mod works for my aftermarket cooler?
https://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10554
I still have not been able to install it but plan on doing it soon.
Re: Z400 Aftermarket Upgrades
The card you refer to has max TDP of 150W and there are posts on it drawing even more than that, supposedly fixed by new drivers.
Take a look at the latest Z400 QuickSpecs and see if there are any HP approved cards drawing that much power. I don't think so. Then, you need to think about getting one of the higher capacity Z400 power supplies, either HP's version or home made (I'd go for the HP version myself). You can find that via Google. Nothing that money can't fix.
Finally, there are lots of mods in your link above.... which do you refer to? Remember if you put in an aftermarket PWM controlled fan you'll get its rated RPMs and then also the influence of HP's stock motherboard PWM throttle, which can make a nice quiet fan go way too slow in practice. The HP engineers have worked hard to get balance between the CPU heatsink fan they chose and the motherboard's PWM control software for that heatsink. You can increase all the fan speeds from BIOS, but not just one.
I'm running the stock "Performance" heatsink/fan in my Z400 which has a X5690 130W max TDP processor. You have seen its W7Pro64 Windows Experience Index scores above, and below are the processor temps. Personally I'm sticking with the stock HP Performance heatsink/fan because I can hardly hear any of the fans in this system.
Re: How enabled or install parallel port on dc5800
The motherboard actually has a Parallel Port Header, as many of the HP workstations and desktop business HP PCs do, and those are 25 pins with one key blank (aka a 13 x 2 header). HP has sold both full height and low profile adapters for this header... the headers are all the same. For the dc5800 that motherboard header designator is P126:
Here is a better picture:
Your eBay source is HERE:
HP Parallel LPT Port Low Profile SFF LP 462537-001 462537-002 Adapter
Here is the image:
Not bad for a HP-made low profile adapter at under $6.00 USD including shipping. I have used these, and they take up one space on your PCI backplane. Nice thing is that the motherboard header and the OS drivers are already present..... pretty much plug and play. No software install needed.
Re: How enabled or install parallel port on dc5800
That is incorrect. The dc5800 Maintenence & Service manual (PG. 1) published by HP, states that the parallel port is only optionally installed.
The following image is from the HP media library. The header may be present, but disabled. All active components are labeled.
Re: How enabled or install parallel port on dc5800
In 100% of the cases where I've seen that header on different HP workstation motherboards it has been active when I have needed to use it. We simply plug on the optional passive parallel port adapter I posted about. We use these mainly for attaching an electronic "dongle" that must be present on a workstation for particular expensive medical software to work. Some medical printers are still going strong, and have only parallel port input. So, I am experienced with these adapters in different settings on different HP workstations/Business PCs. Look on page 12 of the dc5800 QuickSpecs here: http://www.nts.nl/site/html/modules/pdf/PC/dc_5800.pdf and you'll see the adapter is offered as an accessory for both form factors of that computer (the Micro Tower and the Small Form Factor).
Those passive parallel port adapters were an optional purchase, and they usually came as a kit with the full height or low profile backplane metal plate you could screw on as needed. The kit has HP Option P/N of KD061AA, and the HP Spares P/N is 465339-001. A screen shot from a tech document is below, and the quote there for the HP technicians is to not recommend the PCI card approach but rather to "Always recommend HP Parallel Port Adapter or HP 2nd Serial Port Adapter, or both, for HP Compaq dc5800/dc5850 models". Take a look HERE.
The "HP 2nd Serial Port Adapter" mentioned above also attaches to a header on many of the HP motherboards as an option. For many of the more recent HP workstations this is the way to add on a serial port (which we still need for some Cisco device software/firmware updating).
I have never seen any HP reference to the parallel port header being present on a motherboard but inactive. That would not make sense from a supply chain perspective. It is the adapter that is present or absent as the option mentioned in the QuickSpecs. For this reason I'm hoping the original poster will spend the six dollars and get back to us that it worked well on his dc5800.
Note that the half height eBay adapter I linked to is for a dc5800 SFF, not the Micro Tower version (which would use the full height metal plate).
Re: HP DC7700 driver missing for pci serial port & the USB doesn't work using Windows 7
Please I'm also having the same problem. I just reinstalled windows 7 on my HP DC7700 and the only drivers missing are PCI SERIAL PORT and PCI SIMPLE COMMUNICATIONS CONTROLLER.
I have checked the HP drivers download page but could not find anything. The only drivers I saw were for windows Xp and vista which I tried downloading and installing but got error message that it does not support the operating system.
Kindly help me because as it is now, I cannot instal any printer on my system. I have HP printers (Laserjet 1200, 1320 and CP1515) that I needed to instal on the system.
Thank you.

HP 800 G2 Mini - Restarts after a few miniutes on shutdown
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can be of assistance. Throughout the company we are in the process of deploying 800 G2 Minis, however I have noticed on a number of them we ave found that after a user shuts down for the day the next morning the computer is on. I have tested this and it appears to re-start or switch on after a few minutes.
I have check event viwer and BIOS and nothing in there to suggest a re-start. They are runnining the latest BIOS and are on Windows 10.
Any advice would e hugley appreceiated.

800 G2 AiO WLAN card
I have an HP Elite One G2 All-In-One 23" (Bang & Olufsen) and wanted to add WiFi. It has the antennae and the slot but it is not Mini PCI-E. Its smaller.. thinner than M PCI-e. What is it?
Re: 800 G2 AiO WLAN card
Okay. Found it. Its an M.2 2230 slot.
Re: Z400 Aftermarket Upgrades
Yes the MOD I refer to is the one on the first post. Where the user modifies the connector and uses a jumper between the black cable and the fifth pin so the Motherboard recognizes it as a high power cooler.
Can you or someone else confirm if the fifth pin is in fact shorted to the black one?
I actually bought the cooler on the secod post. An Artic cooler Freezer 13 given that it fits the case properly and gives much lower temps to the user who has it. It is also rather cheap, I paid like $23 for it and reviews for it are very positive and I feel confident. I did try to find a High Power cooler from HP but it was rather expensive..
Re: Hauppauge TV Tuner / Video Capture card not recognized in PCIe Gen3 slot
The Riddle_Decipher is at your service!
As I understand you've been attempting to add a TV Tuner card to your workstation using the Gen3 Slot and it isn't working, here's what i will need to get you an accurate solution:
- The model name of the TV Tuner card to confirm if it's compatible with the slot?
- Is it the PCI Express Gen3 x8 or the x16 that you are attempting to use?
- And is any other device such as a video card working on the Gen3 slot ? (To confirm the slot functionality)
Eager to help!
