Thanks, after much searching on the Accell "Where to Buy" page I was able to find one vendor (PCM - whom I've never heard of before) that has cables in stock - though not the Accell. One vendor - Sewell Direct led to a dead url.
In reading about the display port cables, it was my understanding that one of the major advantages of display port was that the manufacturer's DIDN'T have to license this technology whereas they do for HDMI. That was identified as a major advantage for the display port connection over HDMI. This is the text from a "Tested" article I red -
DisplayPort 1.2
DisplayPort supports DRM standards such as HDCP just like HDMI does--with port adapters, DisplayPort can even carry HDMI, DVI, or VGA signals. Apple has adopted DisplayPort into its systems, which certainly puts a big name behind the technology. And because DisplayPort is royalty-free, unlike HDMI, some manufacturers may see it as an attractive alternative. Now for the bad news: DisplayPort-equipped graphics cards are slim pickings. Very few Nvidia cards offer DisplayPort connectors, and almost all of its high-end gaming cards rely on DVI and mini HDMI. Unless you want to drop thousands on an Nvidia graphics card aimed at hardcore 3D rendering, ATI’s DisplayPort selection is more inviting.
In any event, it makes no sense that any manufacturer would sell or make a product that created such hassles for the consumer - but then most companies aren't REALLY in the business of accommodating consumers nowadays, strictly profit motivated.
The various iterations of the display port spec are also extremely confusing. I spoke with the tech rep for PNY and he told me there was absolutely no difference between the 1.1 and 1.2 specs. Then I called Nvidia and the support rep there said there was indeed a difference. I suggested that Nvidia insist the manufacturers include a display port cable with their graphics cards and he thought it was a good idea, but not likely to be implemented. I told the Nvidia rep lack of these cables was going to be a detriment to sales going forward.
It seems not a lot of people have moved to UHD monitors yet or else I would think there would be holy heck raised about the dearth of cables to support those monitors. My other belief is - and I'm assuming this, is those organizations/individuals who are publishing the glowing reviews of these graphics cards receive EVERYTHING they need to get the cards up and running - including the necessary cables. We paeon consumers are left to our own devices.
Now if PNY had included just one DVI-D connection I would have been golden as I have 5 DVI cables lying around - four that have never been opened/used. They worked great with my old EVGA GTX-670 card and the EVGA GTX-780 card in my Mac Pro at the 2660 X 1440 res.
