I've "built" my new Z820 with the Xeon v2 processor, which is pretty awesome. I decided to upgrade my graphics card to the Quadro M4000 with 8GB video memory. I finally received the card yesterday and couldn't wait to install it in my Z820. Got everything installed, downloaded the driver from Nvidia's site and went into Nvidia Control Panel to set the resolution of my NEC PA271 (2660 X 1440). I don't have a display port cable so I had to use the DVI to display port adapter that came with the card. Lo and behold the max resolution available was 1920 X 1080?? I tried every option I could think of to get the correct res for my monitor - to no avail. I went to the PNY site to try to find some info, but nothing. I looked in the manuals on the cd that came with the card - nothing (actually NOTHING at all about the card or it's installation)!
After several hours of getting more and more irritated - I gave up and went to bed.
I called PNY support first thing this morning. Turns out the adapter they ship with this card only supports 1920 X 1080 resolution? Why supply an adapter that can't support the UHD resolution of the card? I complained that their web site also provide NO information and John Kowalski agreed they needed to provide this information.
So now I have to find a display port cable - good luck with that. I went to Amazon (it should be noted that you HAVE to use a display port 1.2a cable to support ANY resolutions higher than 2560 X 1440) but they don't have any 1.2a cables listed. The cables they do have aren't actually in stock or you must buy them as an "add-on" to another purchase because they are too cheap - but also don't support the needed resolution.
I tried Monoprice who makes version 1.2a cables - but they are out of stock (I called them and they said they may come in tomorrow 3/4/2016 - or not). I tried Newegg - no luck. Walmart has cables, but again they are only 1920 X 1080 res capable. Provantage has nothing. I tried every online option I could think of - even Best Buy and they have nothing available.
I have a mini display port adapter that came with my monitor - but again, good luck trying to find a mini displayport cable anywhere.
The quadro ships with some add-ons that to my mind are superfluous - a sound connector card and 3D capability, which really doesn't make sense to me for a professional graphics card. Why not include a version 1.2a display port cable that you actually NEED to run the card rather than these other items that I'll NEVER use?
Supposedly, one of the main selling points in the reviews I've read for this card is it's ability to support up to four displays, all of which can be UHD. However, you MUST use a 1.2a cable to obtain the UHD or any res above 2560 X 1440 and those cables are as rare as hens teeth.
So unless you have the required display port cables lying around, make sure you can buy them before you buy this card - otherwise, you'll be sitting around waiting for some time.
If anyone has suggestions for obtaining display port 1.2a cables I'm all ears.
