I recently acquired a Z800 with x2 X5570 processors. The boot block date is 1/30/09 in the bios, so from what I read, it won't handle an X56xx processor. My bios is v3.10.
Does the limitation to upgrading to x56xx have to do with the bios, or the physical properties of the motherboard? I had thought that the "Rev 1" motherboards could handle an x56xx chip.
The reason I ask is that the machine powered up fine with x2 X5570 processors. But when I swapped them out for x2 X5670 processors, nothing happens. The machine turns on, but no bios, no beeps, no nothing. I've tried pulling the battery and resetting the cmos numerous times. Only once did it boot to the bios but when I made changes and saved, it rebooted, but nothing. I was hoping to be able to repeat that so that I could see if it was recognizing the X56xx chips or not but have been unsuccessful.
