3. What's New
==============================================================================
3.1. New Features ( and changes )
ThinPro is now a 64 bit OS. The Linux kernel has been updated to 4.4.
For AMD based platforms, the proprietary FireGL driver (fglrx) is no longer being used. Either the RADEON or AMDgpu open source display driver will be used, based on the actual hardware. Please note that for units with a second video card (t620, t730), only the integrated video card will be configured. If you are using a unit with an addon video card, HP recommends that you do not upgrade to ThinPro 6.1.
Added the ability to write system level information to the desktop similar to the "bginfo" tool under Windows.
BIOS firmware updates are now performed by the BIOS itself rather than a Linux specific tool. Some older BIOSes on existing products may not support this type of update. Please update the BIOS with your existing ThinPro image before updating to ThinPro 6.x.
Included the latest security fixes and updates for all packages.
Some clients (Citrix and Teemtalk) remain at 32 bit in order to support existing features.
Added latest Citrix Receiver, VMWare View, HP Velocity Client, and FreeRDP packages.
Citrix changes: Citrix Receiver 32bit 13.3.0.
Compatibility with NetScaler 11
Real Time Media Engine 32 bit 1.8.100.
VMWare changes: VMware Horizon View Client 64 bit 4.0.0.
VMware Blast Extreme
- H.264 and JPG/PNG codecs.
- UDP for lossy networks
- Tunnel performance improvements for USB, CDR and Clipboard etc
- FIPS mode can be enabled in USB, PCoIP and VMware Blast
- Openssl library upgrade to 1.0.2f
- TLSv1.0 was disabled by default and sslv3/sslv2 support were removed. If you want to enable TLSv1.0 with Horizon 7, please refer the Horizon security guide.
RDP changes:
An update to HP's latest version of freerdp-1.1 for HP Thin Clients.
* Scripts have seen large overhauls to improve security.
* RDP no longer supports MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files for MMR.
* Autodetect network characteristics.
* Add registry key bandwidthLimitation - reduces bandwidth used by the
freerdp client to approximately the value specified in kilobytes per
second.
* X11 Debugging - a new set of options on the Diagnostics tab for RDP
connections.
* X11 Debugging - Synchronous X11 turns off buffering of X11
operations so that errors occur closer to the X11 call that caused
them.
* X11 Debugging - Logging creates a text file (by default
/tmp/xlib.log) that traces all of the X11 library calls that are
executed.
* X11 Debugging - Capture creates files in a directory (by default
/tmp/x11-frames-XXXXXX, where XXXXXX is a timestamp) that allow the
session to be played back at a later time.
* RD Web Access - Support of the certificate: "RD Connection Broker -
Publishing".
* RD Web Access - Add the verification of the publisher's signature.
* RD Web Access - Automatically use of the RD Gateway as defined by
the Remote Desktop Deployment services on the Windows server.
* RD Web Access - Auto-disconnect timeout.
* RD Web Access - Resource filter improvements.
* Don't scale anymore the RemoteApp icons in the taskbar to 48x48
pixels.
* The RD Web Access service is automatically selected when the address
is an URL.
* Add the RDP Dashboard among the diagnostic tools.
* Add support of TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2.
* Update of the USB redirection module.
* RD Web Access - Fix the copy of the Resource filter from a
connection to another.
* RD Web Access - Fix the update of the "do not ask again" known hosts
after the initial certificate was changed.
* Fix the number of connection attempts to a single one and prevent
the login account to be locked out prematurely.
* Fix the ability to edit the window percentage size up to 100%
instead of 99%.
* Fix a disconnection issue to Windows 7 RemoteFX with multiple
displays.
* Suspend connection health monitoring when a connection's window is
minimized.
* Fix issue where the screen would fail to update correctly after
deleting some text, such as in notepad and typing delete or
backspace.
* Fix issue where FreeRDP fails to launch when the ThinPro taskbar is
not enabled.
* Glyph fix for redraw issues with Server 2003
* RDP6 sessions drawing many lines (e.g. spreadsheets) would sometimes
not update those lines between frames.
* Numlock and other keyboard states are synchronized more reliably.
* Improved diagnostics in certain functions.
* Fix for RDP8 sessions (EGFX) with monitor width not a multiple of
64.
* RD Web Access (desktops only): add support of RDP8 sessions (EGFX).
* New Connection Manager's option: Enable Progressive RemoteFX Codec.
* Initialization of the sentinel on the logon notification instead of
the reception of the auto-reconnect cookie.
* Support hourly updates of the auto-reconnect cookie.
* Fix erratic behaviors with RemoteApps windows.
* Initialize state of modifier keys on focus-in, too.
* Fix memory leak in EGFX-CAVideo and frameAck in closed channel.
* Fix initialization of static channels (for Avaya especially)
* Add checkbox for Progressive RemoteFX graphics.
* Add the greyscale-warning standalone utility.
* Increase the sentinel logging.
4. Image Installation Instructions
==============================================================================
NOTE: You *MUST* install a ThinState update package (hptc-thinstate-ng version 1.10.3 or later) for ThinPro 4.x and Smart Zero Core 4.x and then reboot before using Automatic Update or Easy Update to install a ThinPro 6.x image onto a device running ThinPro 4.x or Smart Zero Core 4.x. Failure to do so will result in a corrupted image on the client device requiring manual reimaging. HPDM 4.7SP4 (or newer) is needed for image capture/deploy features to work.
Use HP ThinUpdate to format a USB flash drive and add the device image to the drive. Then insert the drive into the thin client and boot the device. The device will boot into imaging mode and automatically reimage the device. See the HP Smart Client Administrator's Guide for information on installing or upgrading to ThinPro / Smart Zero Core 6.1 using HP Device Manager or Automatic Update.
Recommended upgrade path is from 5.x to 6.1.
5. Known Issues
==============================================================================
For units with a second video card (t620, t730), only the integrated video card will be configured. If you are using a unit with an addon video card, HP recommends that you do not upgrade to ThinPro 6.1.
