A solution for the issue you describe for me was to buy a USB3 extension cable and put the "puck" on the foot of my computer screen. I attached it to the USB3 connection on the back of my Z440. One of the best investments i have done to my computer! 
EDIT: You can also go the "Control Panel" > "Power Options" > "Change what the power button does" and change the "Power button settings" to "Do nothing". When you save this setting the computer will not shut down when pressing the button. From now on you must hold the power button for approx 3-4 seconds to force a shutdown of the system.
