Dan_WGBU,
As a follow up to my original post, I changed the RAM in the z620 from 4X 8GB + 4X 2GB of DDR3-1600 unbuffered (PC3-12800E) to 8X 8GB DDR3-1600 registered (PC3-12800R) and this did have a substantial result:
With 40GB unbuffered:
HP z620 (Rev 2) 2X Xeon E5-2690 (8-core @ 2.9 /3.8GHz) / 40GB (4X 8GB +4X 2GB DDR3-1600) / Quadro K2200 (4GB) / Z Turbo Drive (256GB) / 800W > Windows 7 Professional 64-bit > HP 2711x (27" 1980 X 1080)
[ Passmark System Rating= 5322 / CPU= 19675 / 2D= 767 / 3D = 3544/ Mem =2337 / Disk = 12951 ] 8.15.16
With 64GB registered:
HP z620 (2012) (Rev 2) 2X Xeon E5-2690 (8-core @ 2.9 /3.8GHz) / 64GB (8X 8GB) DDR3-1600 ECC reg) / Quadro K2200 (4GB) / HP Z Turbo Drive (256GB) / 800W > Windows 7 Professional 64-bit > HP 2711x (27" 1980 X 1080)
[ Passmark System Rating= 5675 / CPU= 22625 / 2D= 815 / 3D = 3580 / Mem = 2522 / Disk = 12640 ] 9.25.16
Notice the improvement in all parameters except Disk, which in Passmark Performance Test is typically lower on subsequent tests.
This change was prompted by the unusual result in which the original configuration achieved the Passmark highest system rating (5322) of any z620 (249 tested) depsite the CPU mark being below average for dual Xeon E5-2690 (Passmark average = 20699) and a number of other parameters. The z620 memory specification lists that 2GB and 4GB modules may be unbuffered but 8GB modules should be registered and that does indeed produce an improvement.
Dan_WGBU, thank you for your reply. I had made an earlier response, but the reply appears to have been deleted as have a number of other posts, images in posts, and PM's. What is the address for communications regarding this forum? Thank you.
Cheers,
