Z800 makes noise like a fax being sent. (only a lot quieter!)

My z800 constantly makes a low level noise similar to the sound you hear when a fax is sent or a dot matrix printer printing.

It seems to change pitch slightly in sympathy with how much work the processor's having to do. 

Any idea what it might be?
