Have you tried to fit a similar graphic card in your Z440? 
I have the standard sized GTX980 but would love to replace it with a card with a similar width as the MSI GTX980Ti since the fans hopefully are quiter. I noticed the metal block on my Z440 but newer bought the wider card...
