I would check if using a PCIe SSD such as yours causes conflicts with the USB ports or the SATA ports. I'm sure the guys from HP will join the topic and give you more details on this.
What model of the WD My Book do you have? Is it functioning properly on other computers? Have you tested other external drives (HDDs, Flash Drives, etc) and if yes - does the same problem occur? When you connect your WD My Book what excatly is it happening? Can you see it in Device Manager or in Disk Management ? Are they visible in BIOS when the PCI SSD is connected?
